Rebel heart (Dust Lands, # 2) by Moira Young

In Blood red road Saba defeated the Tonton and was reunited with her brother. In this sequel, Saba has to deal with the consequences of her previous violence and face a new but familiar enemy.

I really enjoyed the style of writing in Blood red road, once I got past the lack of speech marks. Its unique style is continued in Rebel heart and really contributes to the world building. The society in which they now live is more agricultural/physical than intellectual as they struggle against each other and a world which has been transformed by climate change. Saba finds her relationship with her beloved brother tested by her love for Jack who is no longer trustworthy. She has always been hot-blooded and impetuous and she is still the same. She makes some foolish choices in Rebel heart and, although she deals with some of the repercussions in this book, there are sure to be darker repercussions in the next.
